Waypoint Mentoring Program

The exciting new Waypoint Program came under the MYC umbrella in September. Waypoint is a six-year mentorship program for students in RSU 1. Students join a cohort of their peers in 7th grade, accompanied by three adult volunteer mentors from the midcoast community, and embark on adventures like multi-day camping trips, community service projects, and guest speakers as they work to graduate from Morse High School. Waypoint is a source of support for students in their transition from 8th to 9th grade as well as from 12th grade to their next chapter, preparing them for college and career and teaching them how to be positive members of a growing community.

Five Waypoint Goals

  • Grow civic engagement, awareness, compassion, and community service within the local community.
  • Improve understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of the natural world.
  • Increase self-resilience and determination to succeed.
  • Expand individual leadership and community-building skills
  • Strengthen commitment to post-secondary or technical education.

“I am so excited to be a part of the Waypoint Program at Midcoast Youth Center! RSU 1 and MYC have made me feel right at home and supported in my new role. I can’t wait to meet more students, families, and other members of the greater midcoast community. I feel honored to be a part of the life-changing work done here at MYC.”
