Waypoint Mentoring Program

The exciting new Waypoint Program came under the MYC umbrella in September. Waypoint is a six-year mentorship program for students in RSU 1. Students join a cohort of their peers in 7th grade, accompanied by three adult volunteer mentors from the midcoast community, and embark on adventures like multi-day camping trips, community service projects, and guest speakers as they work to graduate from Morse High School. Waypoint is a source of support for students in their transition from 8th to 9th grade as well as from 12th grade to their next chapter, preparing them for college and career and teaching them how to be positive members of a growing community.

About Katrina

Katrina Cornish is the new Waypoint Program Manager at Midcoast Youth Center. Katrina works directly with the youth in the mentoring program, supporting and guiding their outdoor experiences and community service work. Her first 7th-grade cohort began in January, and she brings her many skills to provide an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive community for students.

Katrina is a Girl Scout leader, Maine Master Naturalist, and certified Wilderness First Responder.  Katrina’s approach encourages personal connections to steward caring relationships and foster social connections. Katrina hopes to nurture students’ strengths, support their growth, and be a caring adult in their corner for years to come.

“I am so excited to be a part of the Waypoint Program at Midcoast Youth Center! RSU 1 and MYC have made me feel right at home and supported in my new role. I can’t wait to meet more students, families, and other members of the greater midcoast community. I feel honored to be a part of the life-changing work done here at MYC.”
