Welcoming Macy Galvan: New Afterschool Program Director
Macy with the amazing Compass Program Team: (L to R) Elliot, John, Macy, Pushkin the pup, McKenna, Isabella
We’re thrilled to introduce Macy Galvan, who recently joined MYC as our Afterschool Program Director. With over 15 years of experience in youth development, Macy brings a wealth of knowledge and a genuine passion for creating meaningful spaces where young people can thrive.
Leading a Thriving Program
Macy steps into this role at an exciting time for the Compass Afterschool Program. The Teen Center served 600+ students, with over 12,500 unique check-ins recorded in 2025—a testament to the vital role MYC plays in young people’s lives.
A Journey Rooted in Community
Macy’s path to youth development has taken her from nannying to community centers, schools, and program director positions. She spent two years serving in the Peace Corps in Armenia, an experience that profoundly shaped her understanding of community belonging and the power of giving back. Macy currently serves on the Maine Summer Camp board of directors. She works with Valo’s high school teens focusing on mental and emotional well-being and most recently served as camp director for Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust.
What draws Macy to MYC? “The range of supports that meet families’ biggest needs,” she shares. Having experienced instability in her own youth, Macy found refuge in afterschool programs and sports that boosted her confidence and connection to community. She recognizes MYC as a vital “third space—a place where all young people can simply hang out and belong, no questions asked.”
Empowering the MYC Team
Macy is energized by the talents within her team and eager to help each member shine:
- Elliot thrives in the sports arena, hopping on the piano, playing video games with the youth, and playing games all day long.
- Makenna loves the arts and enjoys spending time in museums. She is eager to bring more field trips to the center in hopes of expanding youth interactions with art.
- Isabella leads the Art Room. She has created a calm, relaxing space within the daily madness that is a valuable tool for creative expression and emotional wellbeing.
- John explores music programming and outdoor adventures. He helps to create the spaces in which youth can uncover hidden talents.
Already Making Connections
In just her first few days, Macy has jumped right in—playing intense 3v3 basketball with middle schoolers, meeting our diverse group of teens, bonding with colleagues, and enjoying whoopie pies from our “bake + take” program.
When she’s not at MYC, you might find Macy planning her next adventure (she’ll have visited 50 countries by February after a trip to Japan!), spending time with her beloved dog Pushkin, or channeling her competitive spirit into sports.
Macy’s guiding philosophy? “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” She believes that taking care of ourselves makes us better equipped to support others—a reminder we can all benefit from.
Welcome to MYC, Macy! We can’t wait to see the vibrant community you’ll help build here.
