Growing Our Village: Three New Trustees Join the MYC Board
Glenn Cummings, Andrew Morong, Nancy Carlton
At MYC, we believe it takes a whole community to help young people thrive. Our Board of Trustees has always reflected that belief — physicians, financial leaders, public safety professionals, educators, and community builders who give their time and expertise because they believe in the young people of Sagadahoc County and beyond. Today, we’re excited to announce that three remarkable people have joined that dedicated group. Please welcome Glenn Cummings, Andrew Morong, and Nancy Carleton to the MYC family.
Glenn Cummings, Ed.D. — A Bath Native Bringing a Career of Public Service Home
Glenn Cummings, Ed.D., is a Bath original — a 12th-generation Mainer and Morse High School graduate who has spent his career in service of education, community, and young people across Maine and the country. As the 13th President of the University of Southern Maine, he transformed a struggling institution into a thriving asset for the state, driving record enrollment growth, securing the school’s largest-ever philanthropic gift, and launching landmark construction projects. Before USM, he served President Obama as Deputy Assistant Secretary within the U.S. Department of Education, helping manage a $1.9 billion budget focused on adult education, literacy, and community college access. He is currently Maine’s Director of Green Schools, leading a nationally recognized initiative to weave sustainability into school facilities and curriculum statewide — work that earned Maine a 2025 national Difference Makers Award.
Glenn also served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives, including as Speaker of the House and Majority Leader, where he chaired the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs and sponsored the bill that created Maine’s community college system. He has led Good Will-Hinckley and the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences — one of Maine’s first charter schools — and served as president of the Albert B. Glickman and Judy Glickman Lauder Family Foundation. Through every chapter, his focus has been the same: expanding opportunity for people who need it most. Joining MYC’s board is, in many ways, Glenn coming full circle — investing in the Bath community that shaped him, and in the young people who are growing up there now. He joins a board already deeply committed to this community, and his breadth of experience in education, philanthropy, policy, and public service will be a tremendous asset as MYC grows.
Andrew Morong — A Champion for Young People, Right Here at Home
If there’s one thing Andrew Morong understands deeply, it’s this: every young person deserves a clear path forward. As Dean of Enrollment Management at Central Maine Community College, Andrew has spent his career making sure that path is accessible — reaching students who might not have imagined college as an option, building innovative high school partnerships like the Spring Ahead program, and helping drive CMCC to record enrollment numbers.
Andrew is also a Bath original — a 2004 graduate of Morse High School with roots that run deep in Sagadahoc County. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maine and a Master of Science from Southern New Hampshire University, and he’s built his entire career in service of Maine students.
Beyond enrollment, Andrew has built one of the most extraordinary coaching records in Maine collegiate history. In thirteen seasons as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at CMCC, he’s led the Mustangs to four USCAA DII National Championships — most recently this month, when the #1-seeded Mustangs closed a dominant 29-1 season with a 74-46 championship victory in Buffalo. He was named USCAA National Coach of the Year and has developed 23 All-Americans and 37 Academic All-Conference selections. When asked about this latest title, Andrew put it simply: his players “just want to win, and they will sacrifice whatever it takes for one another to do that.” That philosophy — selflessness, commitment, showing up for each other — will fit right in at MYC.
Andrew understands the young people MYC serves — their potential, their barriers, and the difference a caring adult can make. Alongside board members like Dr. Whitney Taggart and Dr. Deb Hagler, who see these same young people in their pediatric practices, Andrew brings yet another perspective rooted in daily, hands-on commitment to youth. We’re so proud to have him with us.
Nancy Carleton — Four Decades of Midcoast Community Investment
Nancy Carleton has called the Midcoast home for more than 40 years — and in that time, she’s become one of the most respected and community-rooted professionals in the region. Originally from outside Philadelphia, Nancy relocated to Edgecomb along the Sheepscot River as a teenager and never looked back. The Midcoast’s rivers, coastline, and close-knit communities became her home, and she’s spent her career giving back to them.
As a licensed real estate broker with Vitalius Real Estate Group, Nancy brings over 20 years of experience serving buyers and sellers throughout the Midcoast. She has ranked consistently in the top 2% of residential brokers in Maine — a reflection of the trust her clients place in her and the genuine care she brings to every transaction.
But Nancy’s contribution to this community goes well beyond real estate. She has served on the boards of Bath Housing and Tedford Housing, bringing a practitioner’s understanding of what stable, affordable housing means for families and children. She’s a member of Bath Sunrise Rotary and a founding member of the Wiscasset Chamber of Commerce. She knows the landscape of nonprofit community work in this region — the relationships, the needs, and the opportunities.
Nancy’s deep local knowledge, her network across the Midcoast, and her commitment to housing stability make her a natural fit alongside the board’s existing community leaders — from Sheriff Joel Merry to the business and healthcare professionals who have long championed MYC’s work. Together, they represent the full breadth of this community. We are so glad she’s joining the team.
Together, Glenn, Andrew, and Nancy bring education leadership at the highest levels, youth enrollment expertise, housing knowledge, and deep community investment to MYC’s Board of Trustees. Their arrival on a board already rich with the wisdom of law enforcement, healthcare, financial management and passion for service marks an exciting new chapter for our organization — and for every young person we serve.
Welcome to the MYC family, Glenn, Andrew, and Nancy. We are so glad you’re here. 🤝🏼🏛️💙
